Kevin Atkins is a long-time model builder, specializing in space and science fiction hardware. He has worked with the Mars Society, Martin Marietta (before it was Lockmart), Estes Industries, and Loch Ness Productions. He has worked on realistic-looking spacecraft for videos and other science projects. Regular attendees at Denver StarFest know him as the Master of Ceremonies in the Main Events room.
Some of his aerospace models have been displayed at the Paris Air Show, used by NASA, and appeared in Aviation Week and Space Technology magazine. In a former life, Kevin was the Universe Fabrication Coordinator for the Gates Planetarium and a technical assistant at the Strasenburgh Planetarium in Rochester, NY. He was involved in the production of over 75 multi-media astronomy programs and has produced film and video simulations of celestial phenomena. Kevin was also special effects and technical director with filmmaker Stan Phillips and acted as the chief model maker and effects man on three films for Martin Marietta in the 1980s.
