Dr Erin Macdonald is the host of the YouTube series “Dr. Erin Explains the Universe” and works as a consultant and educator, merging science fiction and STEM. Her PhD and postdoctoral research was with the LIGO Scientific Collaboration, looking for gravitational waves from neutron stars and gamma-ray bursts. Upon leaving the collaboration a year before their prize-winning detection, she found solace in science fiction, studying methods of gravity and faster-than-light travel, fulfilling her life goal of becoming a “warp drive expert”. In addition to her YouTube series, she currently lives in Los Angeles and consults with writers, gives talks all over the US, and is writing a book on spacetime in science fiction.
